CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla.—Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced significant investments in workforce development and infrastructure through the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund (JGGF) and the Rural Infrastructure Fund (RIF).
The funds were awarded to Citrus County, Cross City, and Cedar Key to complete crucial infrastructure projects aimed at bolstering rural economies in the Nature Coast region.
“These investments will play a critical role in attracting high-demand, high-wage jobs and businesses to the Nature Coast,” said Governor DeSantis. “This strategic funding will benefit the local economies of Citrus County, Cross City, and Cedar Key, creating opportunities for businesses and job seekers alike.”
Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly expressed gratitude for the Governor’s commitment, stating, “Governor DeSantis’ investment in these projects will significantly advance the economic visions of leaders in Citrus, Dixie, and Levy Counties, bringing high-wage, high-demand jobs to their communities.”
Florida Job Growth Grant Fund Award:
- Citrus County ($2.8 million): This funding will support infrastructure improvements, including the construction of a wastewater line to serve the Holder Industrial Park. This project is the final step needed to open the 551-acre industrial park, which is expected to generate 1,000 direct jobs and between 1,000 and 2,000 indirect jobs. The industrial park will focus on high-skill, high-wage occupations in the manufacturing, warehousing, and industrial sectors, potentially boosting Citrus County’s Gross Domestic Product by $367 million annually.
Rural Infrastructure Fund Awards:
- Cedar Key Water and Sewer District ($2.5 million): This grant will finance the rehabilitation of six sewer lift stations within Cedar Key city limits, enhancing the community’s infrastructure.
- Town of Cross City ($620,000): The funds will be used for water quality testing, evaluating existing potable wells, preparing a plan for repairing and rehabilitating the wells, and potentially siting and drilling a new well.
The Florida Job Growth Grant Fund is designed to support public infrastructure and workforce training across the state. Project proposals are reviewed by FloridaCommerce and selected by Governor DeSantis to address workforce training and infrastructure needs in communities throughout Florida.
