Before Jan. 20, we were told by ‘The Resistance’ that it was an obligation and a high form of patriotism to reject the Trump administration’s ideas and policies.
Somehow, that’s so in vogue.
But credit Republicans on Capitol Hill for trying to pick up that mantle.
As The Washington Times reported, GOP lawmakers on Tuesday began resisting Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s mandate to continue masking.
Just last week the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finally showed that it was ready to “follow the science” and announced that vaccinated people no longer needed to wear masks.
Pelosi, like many of the supposed science followers on the left, refused to budge. She kept intact her rule that required House lawmakers mask up on the floor.
She even imposed and was enforcing, fines for those who flouted the rule – $500 for a first offense, $2,500 for subsequent violations.
Yet the Times noted that Republican lawmakers – such as Reps. Brian Mast of Florida, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia – are practicing civil disobedience.
“We’ve had enough,” Massie tweeted.
“We are refusing to wear our masks on the floor during this vote in spite of Pelosi’s threat to take $500 from each of us. Her rule is not based on science. All you need to know is the mask rule has only ever applied to members when they can be seen on TV!”
On Twitter, Mast added, “I have been fined $500 by @SpeakerPelosi for following CDC guidance. This was never about science. It has always been about power.”
Greene posted a selfie of herself with Massie and GOP Reps. Mary Miller of Illinois and Ralph Norman of South Carolina, all maskless — adding, “#FreeYourFace. Masks are oppressive and nothing but a political tool. End the oppression!”
Later, she added another picture with seven other lawmakers outside the Capitol, announcing that she was “proud to join these Patriots for a peaceful protest on the House floor against mask mandates! #FreeYourFace.”
