Dr. Anthony Fauci

GOP Doctors: Fauci Should Apologize For Calling Senator A “Moron,” Take Stock Of His Own “Divisive Actions”

Like the president he serves, Dr. Anthony Fauci has little patience for those who disagree with him, challenge him, or question his ethics, morals, politics, or motives during the worst pandemic in a century.

As Fauci said in an interview last fall, “it’s painful and disturbing” when someone “who only cares about science and health” is subjected to “completely outlandish politicization.”

After all, when his critics lash out, he said, they’re “really criticizing science” because after all, “I represent science.”

Fauci shows he can give as good as he gets in the political realm.

He once taunted GOP Sen. Ted Cruz over the Jan. 6 investigation and has repeatedly sparred with Republican Sen. Rand Paul in multiple testy exchanges.

We recently learned that at the beginning of the pandemic, he wanted to help target prominent scientists who questioned the wet-market origin of COVID-19 as conspiracy theorists.

And most recently he called GOP Sen. Roger Marshall a “moron” for questioning Fauci’s lack of transparency in reporting his financial disclosure records.

It is that latter episode that has drawn the ire of 13 Republican lawmakers.

According to Newsmax, the lawmakers, who belong to the GOP Doctors Caucus, demanded on Tuesday that Fauci publicly apologize to Marshall, who also is a medical doctor.

Led by Rep. Greg Murphy, R-N.C., the physicians wrote: “People expect physicians to be tolerant and always respect diversity. A physician, especially in a national leadership position, who doesn’t respect diversity — which includes diversity of opinion — reflects poorly on our entire profession.”

In the letter to Fauci, who has been a public health bureaucrat for more than 40 years, they admitted they “understand that congressional hearings can sometimes be challenging.”

However, they added, Fauci labeling Marshall a moron during a Senate hearing was “extremely unprofessional and uncalled for.”

The GOP group argued that Marshall, “is a highly qualified physician and highly respected.”

“Colleagues,” the Republican doctors wrote, “even when they do not agree, should not stoop to calling another colleague a juvenile name.”

“The medical profession is one that is normally held in high esteem. This type of behavior undermines the trust that Americans have in physicians,” the letter added.

The docs then requested Fauci make a public apology for his “unprofessional comment.”

In follow-up comments to Fox News, Murphy said, “Dr. Fauci has forfeited his credibility as a public health expert by placing political science ahead of medical science.”

“Physicians have an obligation to put forward clear, consistent, and well-educated messaging to inform patients and the public. Instead of fulfilling this responsibility, Dr. Fauci has administered confusing and conflicting information in an air of arrogance that has resulted in a marked decrease in the public’s trust.”

“Dr. Fauci’s recent denigrating antics in undermining our highly respected colleague, Dr. Marshall, is just the latest example of his tragic failure to lead,” Murphy continued.

“We ask that Dr. Fauci make a public statement immediately withdrawing his derogatory comments, and reflect on the fact that medical opinions are best achieved through consensus and humility, not arrogant monolithic statements. Dr. Fauci should take stock of how his divisive actions have done our nation more harm than good.”
