A 50-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the 2019 death of a 61-year-old man, a case that was initially believed to be a natural death. Carmen Hunt is now facing charges of felony murder and aggravated assault for the killing of Ray Neal.

On July 20, 2019, Gwinnett County police officers responded to a medical call at a residence on Lexington Drive. Neal’s sister had found him deceased in his bedroom and reported that he had several medical conditions. While police observed blood at the scene, it was unclear whether it was related to a crime or his health issues.

Neal’s body was transported to a funeral home, where staff discovered suspicious injuries on his neck while preparing him for transport. The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Neal had sustained stab wounds to the neck, and his death was ruled a homicide.

The case remained cold until 2024, when a relative of Neal’s contacted authorities and implicated Carmen Hunt in the murder. Hunt was already incarcerated for an alleged stabbing incident in 2022.

Investigators reviewed security footage, conducted interviews, and re-examined fingerprints collected from the 2019 crime scene. The evidence led to Hunt being charged with Neal’s murder.

Hunt remains in custody at the Gwinnett County Jail, facing charges for both the 2019 murder and the 2022 stabbing incident.
