MSNBC is set to make significant changes to its primetime lineup, including the cancellation of Joy Reid’s show, The ReidOut, according to multiple sources. The move is part of a broader restructuring effort under the network’s new president, Rebecca Kutler, as MSNBC aims to refresh its programming amid shifting viewer preferences and declining ratings.

Reid, who has anchored The ReidOut since 2020, will see her final episode air this week. The show, which filled the 7 p.m. ET slot following the departure of Chris Matthews, has been a staple of MSNBC’s evening lineup.

However, the network is now preparing to launch a new program featuring The Weekend anchors Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez in the same time slot. The new show will run for two hours on Mondays and one hour from Tuesday to Friday.

The decision to cancel The ReidOut has sparked reactions from both supporters and critics of Reid.

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG) took to X to celebrate the news, writing, “Good morning!! MSNBC just canceled Joy Reid’s show. The ad execs and the board finally figured out that racism, lies, and Trump derangement syndrome will put them out of business.”

Reid’s show has been a lightning rod for controversy, with critics accusing her of partisan bias and supporters praising her for addressing issues of race, politics, and social justice. Her departure marks a significant shift for MSNBC, which has long positioned itself as a progressive counterpoint to conservative media outlets.

The changes come as MSNBC grapples with a post-election viewership decline and seeks to adapt to a rapidly evolving media landscape. The network is also preparing for Rachel Maddow’s return to a once-a-week schedule this spring, leaving the 9 p.m. ET slot open for new programming.

Maddow, who had been hosting five nights a week since Donald Trump’s inauguration, will now focus on a weekly show, creating additional opportunities for the network to experiment with its lineup.

The cancellation of The ReidOut and the introduction of the new show featuring Sanders Townsend, Steele, and Menendez reflect MSNBC’s efforts to diversify its offerings and appeal to a broader audience. The trio, known for their dynamic chemistry and insightful commentary on The Weekend, are expected to bring a fresh perspective to the primetime slot.

While the network has not officially commented on the changes, insiders suggest that the overhaul is part of a larger strategy to reinvigorate MSNBC’s programming and compete more effectively in the crowded cable news market.
