Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has modified his position on more help to Ukraine, appearing to abandon his previous insistence that border security cash be included in the agreement.
On Wednesday, House Republican leadership submitted a package that includes around $61 billion in Ukraine help, $26 billion in Israel aid, and $8 billion in Indo-Pacific aid, as well as an independent border security plan that will be voted on separately.
Johnson previously appeared to favor extra Ukraine help only if it was linked to some form of border security package.

President Joe Biden stated Wednesday that he fully supports a proposal by Republican House Speaker.
Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who is seeking to oust Johnson, blasted the speaker on X Wednesday.
“Chuck Schumer bragged on the Senate floor about Speaker Johnson giving Democrats everything they want in the foreign war bill and for Ukraine. Joe Biden just announced he supports the House bill Johnson is forcing forward. Johnson is not our Speaker, he is theirs,” said Greene and X. “The question is how much longer will our conference tolerate this?”
Johnson began signaling in March that the House would have to take up a “stand-alone” Ukraine aid bill, which he acknowledged would likely require a surplus of Democratic votes given the increasing unrest on the Republican side.
After Johnson announced his plan to bring the bills to the floor, Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie announced he would join Greene’s effort to oust him from the speaker role.

Several House Republicans on Wednesday expressed ire at Johnson’s decision to move Ukraine aid forward without guaranteeing border security.
“Every true conservative America First patriot in the House should vote against the rule for this borrowed foreign aid bill with no border security!” Republican Virginia Rep. Bob Good said on Wednesday.
“This is a total and complete failure,” Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy said on Wednesday.
