In a shocking display of parental fury, Christie F. Oxendine has been sentenced to 16 months in federal prison for turning a desperate plea for her child’s care into a violent rampage against those sworn to heal.

The chaotic scene unfolded at Fort Stewart’s Winn Army Community Hospital, where Oxendine’s maternal instincts morphed into a dangerous obsession, leaving medical staff bruised and traumatized.

“While family members and patients will occasionally disagree on standards of care in medical facilities, it is inexcusable to physically attack and disrupt the work of health care professionals,” said U.S. Attorney Steinberg. “This sentence of incarceration makes clear that violent and abusive behavior will not be tolerated.”

The incident began when Oxendine, driven by fear for her ailing child, demanded medical interventions that doctors deemed unnecessary and potentially harmful. As her pleas grew increasingly frantic, hospital staff refused to yield to her untrained demands, triggering a terrifying explosion.

In a fit of blind rage, Oxendine tore her child from life-saving equipment, vowing to flee with the vulnerable patient. Nurses, including one carrying a precious unborn life, were thrown aside like ragdolls as Oxendine fought to escape the consequences of her misguided choices.

Only the swift intervention of military police could wrest the child from her grasp, returning the small patient to the safety of professional care.

Oxendine’s two-day trial in April laid bare the chilling details of her assault. Now, the once-protective mother faces a harsh reality: three years of supervised release following her incarceration, a constant reminder of the day love turned to violence in a place of healing.
