Rep. Rich McCormick, a Republican from Georgia, filed a resolution on Monday criticizing Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat from Michigan, for engaging in antisemitic behavior and promoting “false narratives” regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict.
This second resolution comes after Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene filed a resolution to censure Tlaib that failed in the House.
The resolution accused Tlaib of promoting antisemitism and starting an “insurrection” at the Capitol.
The reference to an “insurrection” was in relation to a Palestinian protest that took place on the grounds of the Capitol complex.
However, the resolution was ultimately tabled in a 222-186 vote, with the support of 22 Republicans.
Following the failure of Greene’s resolution, Republican Georgia Representative Rich McCormick introduced a second resolution to censure Tlaib.

McCormick’s resolution aims to address Tlaib’s alleged antisemitic activity and her promotion of false narratives regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict with more accurate language. McCormick believes that his resolution will gain broader support in the House.
Both Republicans and Democrats have accused Tlaib of promoting antisemitism in the wake of Hamas’ terrorist attacks against Israel.
Tlaib posted a video on social media where protesters were heard chanting “from the river to the sea,” a phrase associated with calls for the Palestinian takeover of Israel.
Tlaib had previously referred to Israel as an “apartheid” state.
Additionally, Tlaib has been criticized for repeating unfounded claims that Israel bombed a hospital in the Gaza Strip, even after it was discovered that the hospital had been hit by a faulty Hamas rocket.

In response to the accusations, Tlaib defended the video and claimed that the “from the river to the sea” chant was an aspirational call for freedom rather than a call for a takeover. She argued that her words and actions were not racist or hateful. Tlaib also blamed the Biden administration for “supporting genocide.”
