Georgia Man Sentenced To 6 Years For Brutal Florida Prison Attack

Walter Lamar Jackson, a 43-year-old inmate from Georgia, has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for a violent assault that left his cellmate with serious injuries. A federal jury found Jackson guilty of the assault, which took place within the special maritime or territorial jurisdiction of the United States.

The incident occurred on July 15, 2021, at the Federal Correctional Complex Coleman in Sumter County, Florida. Jackson was sharing a cell with another inmate in the facility’s special housing unit.

Correctional officers responded to an emergency alarm and found Jackson repeatedly slamming his cellmate’s head into the concrete floor. The victim was unconscious and sustained severe injuries.

Jackson reportedly told medical personnel that he attacked his cellmate after giving him three warnings to be quiet.
