A 19-year-old Georgia man was arrested in Florida over the weekend after deputies discovered a stolen firearm, marijuana, and a large sum of cash at a short-term rental property.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) responded to a request from a property manager at a rental on Walton Way in Miramar Beach on Friday night to assist with an eviction. During a walk-through of the residence, a manager located a handgun in one of the bedrooms.

A check through dispatch revealed the firearm was stolen from Georgia. Deputies also found a significant amount of marijuana, digital scales, and baggies within the property.

Following the eviction, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle leaving the residence. A search of the vehicle uncovered a Glock 17 handgun and $4,800 in cash inside a backpack. Deputies also located 27 bags of marijuana, each containing 3 to 3.5 grams, totaling 94.5 grams.

Jacobi Kareem Daniel, 19, admitted that the marijuana, cash, and the handgun belonged to him. He was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
  • Possession of marijuana over 20 grams
  • Possession with intent to distribute

Daniel was released on a $5,000 bond the following day.

The WCSO has been actively working with property management companies in the area to address issues related to short-term rentals, particularly during the spring break season.

The Sheriff’s Office has assisted with over 20 evictions and has taken a proactive approach to informing property managers of violations and complaints.
