Left-wing billionaire George Soros is an open advocate of defunding police and promoting policies that leave America’s biggest cities awash in violent crime.
But over the weekend, someone wanted to make sure he got an up-close look at police presence.
The New York Post reported on Monday that Soros was the victim of a “swatting” attack on Saturday night, as heavily armed cops rolled up to his Southampton mansion after receiving a call from a man who claimed he had shot his wife and was threatening to kill himself.

The Post noted that it wasn’t clear if Soros or any members of his family were at the estate when police arrived.
Cops confirmed with on-site security that the call was bogus. No one was hurt.
Swatting, as the Tampa Free Press has reported, involves someone making a deliberate phony call for emergency help at the target’s location in order to stoke an aggressive response from law enforcement.
It can produce deadly results, as occurred in 2017 when a Los Angeles man made a swatting call about a rival gamer in Kansas.
Unsuspecting police believed the man had killed a family member and was holding others hostage inside his home. They shot and killed him as he stood on his porch after he did not comply with their demands to keep his hands up.
In 2019, the caller, Tyler Barriss, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to one count each of making a false report resulting in death, one count of cyberstalking, and one count of conspiracy.

More recently, swatting callers have targeted Republican politicians, such as Florida Sen. Rick Scott and Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, and conservative commentators, including Human Events columnist Jack Posobiec, Adam Guillette, president of the conservative nonprofit group Accuracy in Media and George Washington University legal scholar Jonathan Turley.
Soros is one of the rare leftists to be hit with a swatting incident.
Scott and Greene both have pledged to file legislation to make swatting a federal crime.
