Garbage Truck and Car Collide Monday, Driver Suffers Serious Injuries

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – A nearly-head on crash Monday, left the driver of a garbage truck with serious injuries Monday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, an 83-year-old man from Homosassa, was traveling eastbound on SR-44, east of Van Nortwick Road, when glare blocked his vision.

The man traveled across the continuous left turn lane and into the westbound lanes and collided nearly head-on with a garbage truck, driven by a 59-year-old man from Lecanto.

Troopers say the garbage truck rotated and overturned and was struck again by an SUV.

FHP says that all drivers and passengers of the car and SUV had no injuries in the crash. All drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts except for the garbage truck driver.
