Fundraiser Launched For 6-Year-Old Bartow Boy Struck By Dirt Bike

POLK COUNTY, FL. – On February 4, 2022, Bartow Police Department were on the scene investigating a traffic crash on Summerlin Street involving a 6-year-old child.

An adult driver of a dirt bike was traveling west on Summerlin Street when a child crossed in front of the dirt bike. That child was 6-year-old Mikey Almeida.

“Mikey was getting off the school bus. He had a reward from his teacher for such a good day. He was so excited to show mama,” said Mikey’s father, Brandon Almeida.

Mikey was in the crosswalk when he was hit by a dirt bike and is in critical condition.

“He has not woken from anesthesia. He has several broken bones. And extensive brain damage. My son is only 6,” said Brandon. “He has built an army that I didn’t even know he had. People that I never knew…knew me because of Mikey.”

“He is my treasure. I want to be a part of his army. He has health insurance. What he needs is life to be doctoring to him. When he comes home he will have difficulty with the simplicity of small tasks. I don’t know how much or even what for help to ask for….nobody ever hopes to be in this position. I need clothes for him, lower bed…..I don’t know what to ask… whatever comes to mind please message me. Pray for my boy,” said Brandon on the fundraiser.
