Frank Luntz Predicts Dems Will ‘Read Too Much’ Into Wisconsin Supreme Court Win

Pollster Frank Luntz said on Wednesday that Democrats may be mistaken if they think a liberal candidate’s victory in Wisconsin revealed the “secret sauce” to beating President Donald Trump.

Liberal Susan Crawford beat conservative Brad Schmiel by about ten percentage points in the race to fill a vacant seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court less than five months after Trump won Wisconsin in the 2024 presidential election by a little over 29,000 votes. Luntz noted that Trump’s “policies” and “agenda” are supported by voters.

“I think the Democrats will read too much into it saying, aha, we found the secret sauce. We’re going to change things. And Republicans thinking that Florida, winning both those house seats, the fact is, they won those seats with a reduced margin,” Luntz told CNN host Boris Sanchez. “I’ve never seen anyone like Donald Trump able to turn out votes when he’s on the ballot, but he’s not been nearly as successful when he provides support for candidates but his name doesn‘t appear.”

Republican state Sen. Randy Fine defeated Democratic candidate Josh Weil by 14 percentage points in the race to replace Michael Waltz in Florida’s 6th Congressional District, while former Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis trounced Democratic candidate Gay Valimont by 14.8 points in the special election in Florida’s 1st Congressional District to fill the vacancy from Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz’s resignation.

Gaetz was Trump’s initial nominee for attorney general before withdrawing his name from consideration for the post. Waltz now serves as Trump’s national security advisor.

“We’re still an evenly divided country. We’re still a polarized and angry country. And the reason why I appreciate this discussion is that it’s a chance to say precisely the agenda and the policies have support, the communication and the execution do not,” Luntz said. “So I don’t know if you’re Democrat or Republican, you’re going to be mad at this analysis. But this is the way things are. And we should start to pursue the truth rather than pursue some sort of partisan gain.”
