Four Florida Teens Arrested For Drive-By Shooting, Two Of Them Arrested Last Month For Killing Friend

Four Florida teens, including two who were arrested in April for the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy in Belleview, were taken into custody after a drive-by shooting in an Ocala, Florida neighborhood, according to police.

According to police 19-year-old Jarrett Vining Jr., 17-year-old Joshua Vining, 17-year-old Colton Whitler, and a 16-year-old boy, were arrested Wednesday night in the 300 block of NW 20th Street.

According to the Ocala Police Department, an officer was conducting a traffic stop when he heard “numerous shots being fired nearby” and saw a white vehicle speed away from the area and past a stop sign.

The vehicle was stopped and officers said there were four people inside “extremely nervous and sweaty.” Police said a rifle was seen between the legs of Jarrett Vining, who was in the driver’s seat.

There were three pistols found in the vehicle as well, one of which was inside a pizza box, police said.

Due to the presence of firearms and the shooting heard by officers, all subjects were removed from the vehicle and secured for safety and the firearms were secured. The firearms found were:

  • American Tactical AR-style 5.56 rifle (found on the driver’s floorboard, concealed between Jarrett’s legs)
  • Glock 33 .357 caliber pistol (found on the front seat passenger floorboard in a pizza box, next to the empty holster, where Colton was seated)
  • Taurus 9mm pistol (found on the rear passenger floorboard, just under the driver’s seat, in close proximity to where Hunter was seated)
  • Glock 42 .380 caliber pistol with a laser sight (found on the rear passenger seat floorboard where Joshua was seated)

Joshua Vining and Colton Whitler were arrested on April 2, 2022, in connection with the fatal shooting of Christopher Leroy Broad Jr. in Belleview.

Belleview police said the boy was killed when he and Joshua Vining took turns shooting at each other while wearing a vest containing “a form of body armor.”

Police said Jarrett Vining and Whitler face charges of shooting into an unoccupied dwelling, possession of a concealed firearm, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Joshua Vining and the 16-year-old boy face a charge of possession of a concealed firearm.
