A shooting on a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Blue Line train early Monday morning left four people dead. The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. at the Forest Park station, about 10 miles west of downtown Chicago.
Forest Park police responded to a 911 call reporting multiple gunshot victims on the train. Upon arrival, they found four individuals with gunshot wounds. Three were pronounced dead at the scene, and the fourth was transported to Loyola University Medical Center but later succumbed to their injuries.
Authorities used surveillance video to identify and track down the suspect, who was apprehended on a Pink Line train later in the day. A firearm was recovered during the arrest. Officials believe this was a targeted attack with only one shooter involved and that there is no ongoing threat to the community. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

The CTA condemned the violence, calling it a “heinous and egregious act” that should never have occurred on public transit.
“As soon as this matter was reported, CTA immediately deployed resources to assist the Forest Park Police in their investigation into the matter, including review of all possible security camera footage, which proved to be vital in aiding local enforcement,” the CTA said.
