An Indiana foster mother wanted in connection with the death of a 10-year-old boy has been arrested in Michigan. Jennifer Wilson, 48, was taken into custody Saturday evening in New Buffalo on a reckless homicide charge, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
The charges stem from an incident on April 25 when authorities were called to a home in Liberty Township, Indiana for a “medical emergency.” Upon arrival, they found 10-year-old Dakota Levi Stevens and transported him to a hospital, where he tragically died two days later.

The St. Joseph County Coroner’s Office determined Stevens died from mechanical asphyxia, ruling his death a homicide. At the time, Stevens was in the foster care of Wilson.
An arrest warrant for Wilson was issued Friday, and she was subsequently located and arrested by a deputy who identified her vehicle through a license plate reader.
According to the Porter County Sheriff’s Office, Wilson admitted to lying on Stevens for about five minutes to restrain him after he had run away from home.

Wilson is currently awaiting extradition to Indiana to face the homicide charge.
The investigation into Stevens’ death remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Porter County Sheriff’s Office.
