Fort De Soto Park’s North Beach Reopens After Hurricane Recovery

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Fort De Soto Park’s North Beach will reopen to the public on Monday, February 17th, marking a major phase of the park’s reopening following the impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

“We appreciate the patience of our residents and visitors as we worked to bring Fort De Soto back to full operation,” said Paul Cozzie, director of Pinellas County Parks & Conservation Resources. “This park is a cherished part of Pinellas County, and we are excited to welcome everyone back in time for the spring break season.”

The hurricanes caused significant damage to the park, including flooding, damage to boat ramps and fishing piers, and the loss of numerous trees. Extensive cleanup efforts were required to remove thousands of tons of debris from the park’s beaches and campsites.

Fort De Soto Park, the largest park in the Pinellas County system, spans 1,136 acres and features diverse ecosystems, recreational facilities, and historical landmarks. It is a popular destination, attracting over 2.7 million visitors annually.

While the boat ramp is operational, visitors are advised that amenities may be limited due to ongoing recovery efforts. Caution is urged when accessing the facilities.
