Dylan Robert Dukes, a 27-year-old former music teacher at Starr Elementary School and the district’s 2023 “Teacher of the Year,” has been arrested and charged with stalking after allegedly sending over 60 love letters to an 11-year-old former student.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office reports that Dukes sent the girl numerous unsolicited gifts, including cards, gift cards, ornaments, pictures, and “unwanted hugs.”
Before the summer break, Dukes reportedly prepared a personalized box containing a letter for each day of the week, intended for the girl to read during her vacation.

A search of Dukes’ classroom uncovered multiple pictures of the child. While authorities confirmed these were not sexual in nature, they were considered inappropriate given the circumstances.
Detectives were able to stop the harassment and stalking before it became anything physical – which the juvenile was in fear of, according to ACSO.
The girl’s parents spoke out during a bond hearing, expressing their concern for their daughter’s safety and Dukes’ access to their family.
Dukes’ attorney highlighted his client’s previous recognition as Teacher of the Year and requested his release on bail, arguing there was no flight risk. However, the judge ultimately denied the bond.
