Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie jumped into the 2024 presidential race, filing his official paperwork hours ahead of a planned launch event on Tuesday.
Christie has been outspoken in his criticism of former President Donald Trump, who remains the Republican front-runner in the polls, and he’s likely to continue those lines of attack now that he’s in the race.
Speaking as a political analyst on ABC News’ “This Week” last month, Christie said GOP candidates can’t beat Trump by “cozying up to him.”
In 2016, Christie ran against Trump for the GOP nomination but dropped out after finishing sixth in the New Hampshire primary.

The two later became allies, with Christie heading up Trump’s presidential transition team until shortly after the election and then working on debate preparations against Joe Biden in 2020.
Christie plans to announce his run at a town hall tonight at Saint Anselm College’s New Hampshire Institute of Politics.
Several longtime Christie advisers started a super political action committee to support his expected candidacy.
Tell It Like It Is PAC will be run by Brian Jones, a former adviser to John McCain and Mitt Romney’s campaigns for the White House in 2008 and 2012.
Bill Palatucci, a Republican National Committee member, will chair the super PAC. Christie ally Russ Shriefer will be a senior adviser and GOP strategist Brent Seaborn will work on voter engagement.

Christie has cast himself as the only potential candidate willing to aggressively take on former President Donald Trump, the current front-runner for the nomination. Christie, a former federal prosecutor, was a longtime friend and adviser to Trump but broke with Trump over his refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election.
On Tuesday, Karoline Leavitt, spokeswoman for Make America Great Again Inc., said in a statement, “Ron DeSantis’ campaign is spiraling, and President Trump’s dominance over the Republican primary field has opened a mad rush to seize the mantle for runner-up. Ron DeSantis is not ready for this moment, and Chris Christie will waste no time eating DeSantis’ lunch.”
