Sean Eberhart, 58, a former Indiana State Representative from Shelbyville, was sentenced today to one year and one day in federal prison for accepting bribes from a casino company.
Eberhart pled guilty to conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, admitting to using his position on the House Committee on Public Policy to benefit Spectacle Entertainment, a gaming company, in exchange for the promise of future employment.
According to court documents, Eberhart’s actions occurred between January and May of 2019. He used his influence to support legislation favorable to Spectacle Entertainment, while simultaneously negotiating a lucrative job offer with the company.

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, Zachary A. Myers, stated, “Public officials who betray the public trust for personal gain will be held accountable. This sentence reflects the seriousness of Mr. Eberhart’s crimes and should serve as a deterrent to others who might consider similar conduct.”
In addition to his prison sentence, Eberhart was also sentenced to one year of supervised release. This case marks another instance of corruption within the Indiana gaming industry, following a 2022 case involving another former state senator and a casino executive.
