Former state Senate President Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, and Sen. Erin Grall, R-Vero Beach, have drawn Democratic opponents as they prepare for the November elections.
According to the state Division of Elections website, Democrat Lisa Newell opened a campaign account Monday to run against Gaetz in Senate District 1, which includes Escambia, Santa Rosa, and part of Okaloosa counties.
Gaetz served in the Senate from 2006 to 2016, including as president during the 2013 and 2014 legislative sessions.

He is seeking to return this year as Sen. Doug Broxson, R-Gulf Breeze, faces term limits.
Meanwhile, Democrat Randy James Aldieri has opened an account to run against Grall in Senate District 29, which is made up of Glades, Highlands, Indian River, Okeechobee, and part of St. Lucie counties, according to the Division of Elections website.
Grall was elected to the Senate in 2022 after serving six years in the House.
