Robert Telles, a former Clark County public administrator, was sentenced to a minimum of 28 years in prison for the murder of investigative journalist Jeff German. Telles, 47, was convicted in August for the 2022 killing of German, who had written articles exposing turmoil in Telles’ office and an inappropriate relationship with a coworker.
Despite his denial of the crime, overwhelming evidence, including Telles’ DNA found under German’s fingernails, led to his conviction. Telles, who lost his re-election bid following German’s exposé, claimed he was “framed” and attempted to portray himself as a victim of a conspiracy.

The judge, citing aggravating factors such as the use of a deadly weapon and the victim’s age, added eight years to the 20-year sentence recommended by the jury. Telles will be eligible for parole after serving 28 years.
District Attorney Steve Wolfson expressed his satisfaction with the sentence, emphasizing Telles’ lack of remorse and the danger he poses to the community. Telles’ attorney plans to appeal the conviction.
