ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – – Foot Locker, Inc., a Fortune 500 company, announced its decision to move its global headquarters from New York City to St. Petersburg, Florida, marking a significant corporate relocation. The move, scheduled for late 2025, will establish Foot Locker as the third Fortune 500 company headquartered in St. Petersburg and the fourth in Pinellas County.
Foot Locker President & CEO Mary Dillon explained the decision during an earnings call, stating, “This move builds on our already significant presence in the St. Pete market. We have a strong concentration of talent here and believe it’s the ideal location for continued growth and business expansion. While we will maintain a limited presence in New York to stay connected to sneaker culture, sports, and fashion, our focus on St. Pete offers better collaboration opportunities and long-term financial benefits.”

St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth T. Welch celebrated the announcement, saying, “Foot Locker’s relocation is a monumental achievement for St. Petersburg and highlights our city’s commitment to inclusive and impactful economic development. Following the approval of the Historic Gas Plant District project, this move will create over 150 jobs and further diversify our workforce. This is a testament to our strong partnership with Pinellas County and our shared vision for a vibrant business environment.”
Foot Locker’s relocation solidifies St. Petersburg’s position as a hub for major corporations, joining Jabil and Raymond James in the city, and TD Synnex in Largo. The Tampa Bay metro area now ranks second only to Miami in Florida for the number of Fortune 500 headquarters.
St. Pete EDC President & CEO Mike Swesey remarked, “Foot Locker’s creative focus on a young, diverse customer base aligns perfectly with the culture of St. Pete. We’re excited to welcome a company that reflects the same energy and diversity found here, where sneakers are a common sight in both boardrooms and by the bay.”

The relocation is being facilitated by a collaborative effort between the City of St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, and the State of Florida. Cynthia Johnson, Director of Pinellas County Economic Development, emphasized the region’s appeal, noting, “Our strong business climate is a result of effective collaboration at all levels of government. This was evident in the successful recruitment of ARK Invest and Dynasty Financial, and we look forward to supporting Foot Locker in their expansion.”
Foot Locker is currently working with JLL’s Location Economics Practice to finalize the site for their new headquarters in St. Petersburg. The move is expected to be completed by late 2025.
