A Florida man is celebrating a life-changing windfall after claiming a $1 million prize from the Florida Lottery’s $1,000,000 A YEAR FOR LIFE SPECTACULAR Scratch-Off game.

Visiting Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee, Gustavo Cagigas, a 59-year-old of Fleming Island, opted for a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000, the Florida Lottery announced today.

The golden ticket was purchased at Amoco Express Food Mart on 695 Kingsley Avenue in Orange Park, netting the retailer a cool $2,000 bonus commission. Cagigas’ win is one of 234 $1 million prizes in the $50 game, which also dangles two tantalizing top prizes of $1 million a year for life and boasts over $1.6 billion in total cash rewards.

With odds of winning at 1-in-4.50, it’s a high-stakes thrill for players.

Scratch-offs like this one fuel the Lottery’s engine, making up 74% of ticket sales in the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

Since their debut, these games have dished out over $65.5 billion in prizes, minted 2,283 millionaires, and pumped more than $19.8 billion into Florida’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund. For Cagigas, that $50 gamble turned into a jackpot—and a story to tell.
