Florida’s labor market remained relatively stable last week, with the number of initial unemployment claims showing little change. This comes as the state anticipates the release of its July unemployment rate on Friday.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s latest estimate, 5,350 initial unemployment applications were submitted in Florida during the week ending August 10th. This figure is only slightly higher than the previous week’s count of 5,338, indicating continued stability in the state’s labor market.

On the national front, an estimated 227,000 claims were filed last week, a decrease of 7,000 from the prior week. This marks the lowest number of claims filed nationally in five weeks.
However, the national unemployment rate rose to 4.3 percent in July, its highest level since October 2021. In contrast, Florida has maintained a steady 3.3 percent unemployment rate for the past three months (April, May, and June).
