Florida Woman Turns $5 Into $1 Million Florida Lottery Scratch-Off Prize

A $5 investment paid off handsomely for a South Florida woman this week. The Florida Lottery announced today that Miozotis Quintana, 55, of Cutler Bay, has claimed a $1 million top prize from the PLATINUM MINE 9X Scratch-Off game.

Quintana chose to receive her winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment totaling $605,016.00. She claimed her prize at the Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Publix supermarket located at 20951 Old Cutler Road in Cutler Bay. The store will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning Scratch-Off ticket.

The $5 PLATINUM MINE 9X game, which launched in December 2024, offers four top prizes of $1 million. With Quintana’s win, three top prizes remain, along with 20 prizes of $10,000. The game features over $66.3 million in total cash prizes, and the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.93.

According to the Florida Lottery, Scratch-Off games remain incredibly popular, accounting for approximately 74 percent of ticket sales during the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Since their inception, these games have awarded more than $65.5 billion in prizes and created 2,283 millionaires.

Furthermore, Scratch-Off sales have generated over $19.80 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).
