MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Susan Louise Lorincz, 59, has been sentenced to 25 years in the Florida Department of Corrections for the death of her neighbor, 35-year-old Ajike “AJ” Owens. The sentencing follows her conviction for Manslaughter by Use of a Firearm after a week-long trial in August.
On August 16, 2024, a jury found Lorincz guilty of manslaughter, concluding that she was responsible for Owens’ death. The case, which garnered widespread attention, highlighted the tragic consequences of the incident and was marked by emotional testimony and evidence.

“The outcome of this trial reflects our commitment to justice and the integrity of our legal system,” said Bill Gladson, Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney. “While we understand that many cases can attract diverse opinions, our office will always focus on the facts and the law. This conviction is a testament to the hard work of our team and our dedication to standing up for victims.”
The State Attorney’s Office extended gratitude to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, particularly its major crimes division, which played a critical role in the investigation. Special recognition was given to Assistant State Attorneys Richard Buxman and Adam Smith, who successfully prosecuted the case.
