HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A Hillsborough County woman is suing Publix Supermarkets, Inc., alleging that the grocery chain’s negligence led to a slip-and-fall accident that resulted in significant personal injuries.

According to a lawsuit filed in the 13th Judicial Circuit Court on January 14, 2025, Ronica Broxton claims she slipped on a liquid substance left on the floor at a Publix location on E. Fletcher Avenue in Tampa on July 8, 2024.

Broxton is seeking damages exceeding $50,000, arguing that Publix failed to properly maintain its store, warn customers of hazards, and train employees to prevent dangerous conditions.

The lawsuit asserts that Publix had either actual or constructive knowledge of the hazardous condition but failed to take corrective action.

Broxton’s legal team contends that Publix:

  • Negligently failed to maintain the store floor in a safe condition.
  • Failed to inspect and remove hazards, despite having reasonable time to do so.
  • Did not adequately warn customers about the dangerous condition.
  • Neglected proper employee training on identifying and preventing slip-and-fall risks.

The complaint argues that Broxton’s injuries have led to pain and suffering, disability, mental anguish, medical expenses, lost wages, and a diminished ability to earn money in the future.

Broxton’s attorneys from Morgan & Morgan, P.A. have formally requested a jury trial, stating that the full extent of damages will be determined in court.

Publix has not yet issued a public response to the lawsuit.
