Florida woman Sarah Boone was sentenced to life in prison on Monday for the second-degree murder of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr. Boone was convicted last month for leaving Torres in a closed suitcase overnight, leading to his suffocation.
The tragic incident occurred in February 2020 when, according to the State Attorney’s Office, Boone and Torres were engaged in a game of hide-and-seek at their townhome. Torres climbed into a suitcase, and Boone recorded videos of him pleading to be let out, mocking his pleas and accusing him of infidelity. Boone then went to sleep, leaving Torres trapped inside. He was dead by the time she woke up.

During the trial, Boone claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse and feared for her life. However, the jury ultimately found her guilty.
At the sentencing hearing, Torres’ family delivered emotional impact statements. His mother, Blanca Torres, spoke of the devastating loss, saying, “She not only killed my son. She killed a father, an uncle, a brother.” His sister, Victoria Torres, expressed the enduring pain caused by Boone’s actions, stating, “Sarah caused a lifetime of pain, a lifetime of horrible images, a lifetime of hearing my brother Jorge plead for his life.”
Boone also addressed the court, offering a lengthy statement in which she claimed to forgive Torres and his family. However, her statement focused heavily on alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of Torres, detailing numerous instances of violence. She also accused his family of ignoring her pleas for help.
The judge ultimately handed down a life sentence, bringing a close to this disturbing case.
