Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Friday that residents 50 and older will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine starting Monday, March 22, and that everyone will likely be eligible by May 1st 2021.
On Friday, DeSantis signed an executive order, and announced it at a press conference.
“People are able to get appointments online much easier now than when the first crush started at the end of December,” DeSantis said from Tallahassee. “So we feel confident going to a 50-plus (model) makes a lot of sense right now.”
The governor appeared with outgoing Division of Emergency Management Director Jared Moskowitz.
DeSantis said the state is slated to receive 42,000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine next week, but nothing for two weeks following that.
