A Florida teen is facing multiple felonies after a brutal stabbing attack that left his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend paralyzed with 15 stab wounds and slicing his own throat.

On Saturday, June 3rd, at approximately 4:30 pm, deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) responded to a call for a stabbing in the 100 block of Valley Circle in Ponte Vedra, in front of the Ponte Vedra Beach sports bar.

The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Spencer Ross Pearson.

Deputies say this incident was a targeted attack by Pearson, a previous boyfriend of 17-year-old Madison Schemitz.

Two other individuals were injured when they intervened to aid the 17-year-old girl, including her mom, Jaclyn Roge, 43.

According to reports, Schemitz split with Pearson a few months prior, and sources say he had been harassing her and making suicidal statements after the breakup.

Roge allegedly filed a complaint against Pearson a week before the attack, stating that Pearson had been struggling with ‘mental health’ issues.

According to a report from The Florida Times-Union, on Saturday, Schemitz and her mom met friends at Mr. Chubby’s Wings at 150 Valley Circle and saw Pearson seated at another table.

The pair decided to exit the restaurant to avoid Pearson, and that’s when witnesses say he charged toward the mother and daughter as they walked to their car.

Police say that Pearon stabbed the girl 15 times, leaving her paralyzed. The girl’s mother attempted to intervene and was stabbed in the leg and arm by Pearson.

According to deputies, a witness to the struggle jumped in to get Pearson off of the girl and was also stabbed.

“After being dislodged, the defendant sliced his own throat several times, telling witnesses he was attempting to kill himself,” said the warrant, accounting to the outlet.

“All parties involved were transported to local area hospitals with serious injuries sustained from sharp force trauma,” said the sheriff’s office.

“Should the suspect survive his self-inflicted injuries, he will be charged with multiple felony charges, including attempted murder,” said SJCSO.

The hospitalized suspect is now facing two counts of attempted premeditated first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said.

Schemitz suffered deep cuts to her spine and experienced temporary paralysis as a result of her injuries.

GoFundMe accounts have already raised over $100,000 to help Schemitz and her family offset incoming medical costs and other expenses.

“Madison is a sister to five siblings, and she will have a long road to recovery as she is in critical condition at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville,” one of the accounts said of Schemitz.

“Jaclyn Rose Roge, mother of Madison is the designated beneficiary of this GoFundMe & is entrusted with these funds, as she recovers in Memorial Hospital to withdraw as needed for medical expenses, unforeseen expenses, and wage supplement until she can return to work. Any amount you are willing to contribute is greatly appreciated by Jacki, Madison & Family,” said the GoFundMe account.
