With 2024 just past the halfway mark, Florida has tragically exceeded 3,000 resident deaths linked to COVID-19, according to data from the Florida Department of Health. The official count stands at 3,002 deaths as of July 23rd.

While this figure is concerning, it reflects a slower pace of deaths compared to the previous four years of the pandemic. In 2020, the state recorded 23,346 COVID-19 deaths, followed by a peak of 39,869 in 2021. The number declined to 21,294 in 2022 and further dropped to 8,440 in 2023.

Within the state, Miami-Dade County has seen the highest number of COVID-19 deaths this year with 268, followed by Palm Beach County with 235 deaths and Pinellas County with 173 deaths.

Health officials continue to emphasize the importance of vaccination and booster shots to protect against severe illness and death from COVID-19.

While the current trend indicates a decline in mortality, the pandemic’s impact remains significant in Florida. The state’s health department continues to monitor the situation closely and encourages residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
