Florida Sen. Rick Scott led a group of Republican lawmakers on Thursday in bashing President Joe Biden’s border security plan as an “election-year gimmick.”
The Florida Republican, joined by fellow Sunshine State GOP Sen. Marco Rubio and a handful of other Republicans, trashed Biden’s plan in a letter to the president.
The letter was sent just days after the New York Post reported that Biden’s supposed crackdown actually directed Border Patrol agents near San Diego to immediately release illegal immigrants from more than 100 countries from the “eastern hemisphere,” which includes Africa, Asia, Australia, and Europe.

San Diego is the busiest sector for illegal crossings. Yet whomever the Border Patrol catches, only adult illegals from Georgia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan will be immediately removed from the U.S. under Biden’s policy.
In their letter, Scott and the other senators noted, “It appears that your administration is still intent on continuing to disregard and undermine not only established immigration law, but also your own executive order.”
“The intent here is clear: the executive order was nothing more than an election-year gimmick designed to change the narrative around the border crisis you created, while this new U.S. Border Patrol memo maintains your status quo of purposeful action to create a wide-open border and encourage historic illegal immigration.”

The senators added that Biden’s supposed get-tough policy really “encourages immigrants from all but six [countries] to continue to violate our immigration laws and exploit our southern border since they are effectively assured their unlawful entry will not result in their removal from our country.”
“Since you took office,” the letter continued, “Americans’ lives are at risk with criminals, terrorists and drugs coming across the southern border.”
The lawmakers pointed out that FBI Director Christopher Wray has admitted that Biden’s policies are making America less safe, and the open-borders policies that have “incentivized” more than 10 million aliens to unlawfully enter the U.S. also have brought to our streets criminals, gang members and suspected terrorists.
Scott and his backers noted that border authorities recently scooped up eight people linked to ISIS. Meanwhile, the free-flowing fentanyl has killed more than 70,000 Amercans a year under Biden, including 884 children between ages 14 and 18 who died in 2021.
“In every one of our states, families are feeling the impact of your administration’s lawless border policies every single day, which we firmly believe are responsible for this horrible crisis of criminals, terrorists and drugs coming into our country,” the GOP lawamkers wrote.
“It is obvious this executive order was simply performative and politically motivated,” they concluded. “The American people see right through your tactics and deserve a president who prioritizes their security.”
Joining Scott and Rubio in signing the letter were Sens. Pete Ricketts, Roger Marshall, Josh Hawley, Mitt Romney, Ron Johnson and James Lankford.
