The Cuban regime has turned the island into a safe haven for Communist China, Russia, Iran, and Venezuela, posing a significant threat to U.S. national security just 90 miles from its shores, according to Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
In response, Rubio and Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) have introduced a resolution demanding accountability for the Cuban government’s egregious actions against its citizens.
Rubio emphasized the growing influence of foreign adversaries in Cuba, stating, “The world is witnessing how the Castro/Díaz-Canel regime has become a puppet for Communist China, Iran, and now Russia. America has a moral duty to defend our nation’s interests and must continue to uphold democratic order and justice in our hemisphere.”
Senator Scott echoed these concerns, highlighting the regime’s destabilizing role in the Western Hemisphere. “The illegitimate Communist Cuban regime is a destabilizing force, a safe harbor for terrorists, and a violator of human rights,” Scott said. “The Biden-Harris administration’s appeasement policies, similar to those of Obama, have only strengthened the Castro/Díaz-Canel regime. Cuban military forces are being used to prop up dictators like Maduro and repress the Venezuelan people. The United States must take a stand, and I’m proud to support this resolution to hold the Cuban regime accountable for its human rights abuses. I stand with the brave Cuban people and will never forget their fight.”
The resolution aims to reinforce U.S. commitment to defending democracy and the rights of the Cuban people against the oppressive actions of the Cuban regime.
Representative María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) introduced a companion resolution in the House.
