Florida Sen. Rick Scott ripped the Biden administration for recently allowing Cuban officials to tour the security set-up at Miami International Airport, calling such a decision “absolutely insane.”
The Transportation Security Administration apologized to Miami officials after it permitted a Cuban delegation to inspect MIA’s security arrangements up close. TSA officials reportedly met with Mayor Francis Suarez and other Miami-Dade County and airport officials.
As the Times noted, President Joe Biden’s TSA first defended the tour, saying it was a “routine courtesy” offered to many nations. They noted Cubans have visited the facility before, back in 2018.

“But critics — including members of the Miami-area Cuban community — said Cuba is far from a normal nation,” the Times added. “The Communist dictatorship is a designated state sponsor of terrorism.”
TSA maintained that the Cuban officials didn’t access “sensitive technology or systems,” although a report by Diario Las Americas, which first reported the visit, seemed to dispute that, saying the group saw backstage areas that included new X-ray technology.
Emilio Gonzalez, a former CEO of the airport who also ran U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under President George W. Bush, denounced the visit.
“Nobody in their right mind, no federal employee, would approve this unless they had top cover at the highest levels,” he told the Times. “You do not invite a country as a state sponsor of terrorism to visit any installation, let alone a sensitive airport, as is Miami International Airport.”

Sen. Scott agreed.
“What the Biden administration has allowed to happen here is absolutely insane,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Scott appeared at a press conference with Republican Reps. Mario Díaz-Balart and Carlos Giménez, both of Miami, to criticize Biden and the Cubans’ visit.
“The illegitimate, communist Cuban regime is a designated State Sponsor of Terror and President Biden just opened our doors to them with a personal tour of U.S. security protocols at Miami International Airport,” Scott continued. “Everything this administration does puts America at risk.”
He said he joined Díaz-Balart and Giménez in calling for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, TSA Administrator David Pekoske and any other administration officials involved in the “reckless” decision to be held accountable.
“Joe Biden’s appeasement of the Cuban regime is already putting Americans in danger; we cannot allow these terrorists back on American soil,” said Scott.
