Florida Sen. Rick Scott on Thursday bashed Senate Democrats and President Joe Biden for reviving a failed immigration bill that would implement failed left-wing policies that have turned the southern border into a sieve.
Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer brought back the bill, which left-wingers tout as a “border security” measure. Yet, instead, it does nothing about security while doing more to legalize illegal immigration.
Before Thursday’s vote, Scott, a Florida Republican who seeks to be his party’s next leader since current Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is stepping down in January, called the vote a “sham” and said it was Schumer’s “desperate move to shift blame and distance Democrats from Biden’s toxic open border policies.”

The senator also noted that the bill does nothing to force Biden, who wants an “invasion” of illegal immigrants, to actually secure the border.
As the Tampa Free Press reported in January, the bill would allow:
- 5,000 illegals a day to be suddenly considered legal. And the border would only be shut down when that number is reached, essentially adding nearly 2 million illegals a year without fear of deportation.
- 50,000 additional green cards a year.
- Work permits for adult children for those immigrants with temporary visas for work.
- Work permits for every illegal immigrant released from custody.
- Taxpayer-funded lawyers to represent unaccompanied children and those with mental disabilities.
- Restrictions on parole for those caught entering the U.S. between designated points of entry.
That bill died after conservatives balked, saying it would do nothing to secure our porous border.
The bill the Senate considered was reportedly unchanged from the initial version and would not offer any significant curbs or legal authorities to deport illegals or penalize employers who hire illegals.
At a press conference, Scott ripped into Biden, Schumer, and the Democrats.

“Everyone knows Schumer’s push to bring back this failed immigration strategy is a sham. This is a desperate move to shift blame and distance Democrats from Biden’s toxic open border policies that have brought millions of illegal immigrants, drugs, and terrorists across our border,” he told reporters.
“This bill won’t solve Joe Biden’s crisis—in fact, it codifies his failed policies. The truth is, if Biden wanted to fix the border, he would do it today by enforcing the laws we have to secure the border, just like President [Donald] Trump did. Then Biden and [Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro] Mayorkas dismantled the entire immigration system and allowed it to become lawless.”
“Biden clearly wants to see an invasion of illegal aliens into the United States. He clearly wants to put Americans’ lives at risk with criminals, terrorists, drugs coming across … innocent Americans killed, and our communities at risk,” said Scott.

“His own FBI director admitted that his policies are making our nation less safe. It is making the fentanyl crisis worse, and I do not want another 70,000 Americans to die from an overdose.”
Scott added that he continues to hear from Florida families about how this crisis is ripping apart families.
“We have to put an end to it. Unfortunately, it is the Democrats that don’t want to secure the border. They want to pass a massive immigration bill that codifies Biden’s open border policies into law,” he said.
“We have to stop illegal immigration and keep Americans safe, and that’s going to require a new president in the White House.”
The move by Schumer and Biden was so bad that six Democrats voted with the Republicans in the 50-43 vote to kill the measure again.
Those no votes also included Sens. James Lankford, an Oklahoma Republican, and Kyrsten Sinema, a former Democrat turned independent from Arizona, both of whom were authors of the bill.
