Following a briefing Wednesday from the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding the recent attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, Senator Rick Scott released a statement addressing the security failures that led to the incident and the need for transparency from the Biden administration.
“I just got off a call with the FBI and U.S. Secret Service regarding the gross security failures that allowed for an assassination attempt on President Trump and the murder and severe injury of other innocent Americans,” Senator Scott said. “First, I am very appreciative of the Secret Service agents and law enforcement officers that put their lives on the line following the shooting to protect President Trump. They are heroes.”
Senator Scott emphasized the importance of public transparency in the ongoing investigation. “While I appreciate the efforts of the FBI and USSS to brief members of Congress on their work and conduct a thorough investigation, the Biden administration must also share this information with the public,” he stated. “There is a lot of information out there, some real and some not, and the Biden administration has got to start being open with Americans about what happened, who is being held accountable, and how we make sure it never happens again.”
In his statement, Senator Scott underscored the urgency of public communication and accountability. “As I said on Saturday, the security of our Republic is being questioned. The Biden administration can’t wait until the investigation is complete to release details. It needs to start today. It is imperative that FBI Director Wray, USSS Director Kimberly Cheatle, and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas hold a daily public press conference to share updates with the American people and answer questions about what happened, who is being held accountable, and how we make sure it never happens again.”
The call for daily public briefings highlights the need for timely and transparent updates as the investigation into the attempted assassination unfolds.
