Florida Sen. Rick Scott Applauds Passage Of 2025 National Defense Authorization Act

Florida Senator Rick Scott, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) and ranking member of its Personnel Subcommittee, celebrated the bipartisan passage of the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The legislation includes significant pay raises for U.S. service members, provisions to strengthen national security, and investments benefiting Florida’s military installations.

Pay Raises: The bill authorizes a 14.5% pay raise for junior enlisted service members (E1-E4) and a 4.5% increase for all other service members, reflecting a commitment to improving military compensation.

Childcare for Military Families: $4.1 million is allocated for the design of a Child Development Center at Naval Air Station Whiting Field and $6.9 million for a similar center at Naval Air Station Jacksonville to expand childcare access for military families.

Countering Chinese Influence: The act includes Senator Scott’s Countering CCP Drones Act, restricting the use of drones and LiDAR systems sourced from China due to national security concerns.

On-Base Food Safety: The legislation bans the sale of Chinese-grown garlic in Defense Commissary stores, citing health risks associated with its production.

Strengthening Israel-U.S. Collaboration: $47.5 million is allocated for joint research on emerging technologies with Israel, alongside $30 million for anti-tunneling initiatives.

Strategic Assets in Florida: The NDAA extends the military mission at Homestead Air Reserve Base near Miami through 2028 and mandates readiness assessments of Hurricane Hunter aircraft prior to storm season.

“This year’s NDAA is a monumental step forward in securing the safety of our nation and supporting our brave service members. I am proud of the work we’ve accomplished to ensure Florida remains a critical hub for our national defense and that our troops receive the pay, benefits, and resources they deserve. From protecting against Chinese influence to improving childcare for military families, this legislation addresses the challenges of today while preparing for the threats of tomorrow.”

Scott also emphasized the importance of safeguarding the U.S. pharmaceutical supply chain by reducing reliance on Chinese ingredients and promoting domestic production.

The NDAA underscores the United States’ commitment to maintaining a strong defense posture amidst rising global threats. Senator Scott expressed confidence in the act’s ability to protect U.S. interests, strengthen alliances, and ensure the continued superiority of the U.S. military.

The bill now awaits President Biden’s signature to be enacted into law.
