Senator Ashley Moody addressed the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, raising concerns about Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and advocating for increased government transparency.
Her remarks drew upon her experiences as Florida’s Attorney General, where she initiated several lawsuits due to what she described as the Biden-Harris administration’s repeated obstruction of document production requests.
Senator Moody stated, “Under the Biden administration, the FOIA system was broken. A system that is meant to allow WE THE PEOPLE to ensure our government officials are working for us, yet this system is routinely exploited through loopholes to exempt documents, delay production, or in some cases, not respond to information requests. As Florida’s Attorney General, I had to file over a half dozen lawsuits against the Biden administration just to get information that is meant to be available to the public. It should not be the case that such litigation becomes necessary as the forum of last resort when the FOIA system fails or when states have had to exhaust all of their administrative remedies.”

Moody highlighted that some of the documents she sought pertained to “the illegal programs Biden implemented on the southern border which led to mass-release quotas of barely vetted and potentially dangerous illegal aliens, including those flagged on the terrorist watchlist.” She emphasized the need for improvement in the FOIA system to prevent “catastrophic coverups.”
