The U.S. Department of Labor reported a decrease in initial unemployment claims in Florida last week. The number fell to 5,838, down from a revised 6,081 the week prior.
This contrasts with the national trend, where claims rose to 230,000. Florida’s average number of claims over the past four weeks stands at 6,509.

Nationally, the unemployment rate held steady at 4.2% in August. Florida’s August unemployment rate will be released on September 20th. The state maintained a 3.3% rate from April through July.
