Florida saw a decrease in the number of people filing for unemployment benefits for the first time last week. The U.S. Department of Labor estimated that 6,219 new claims were filed, a notable decline from the 7,715 claims in the prior week.
While this figure is slightly above the five-week average of 6,061, it reflects a positive trend in the state’s labor market. Florida’s unemployment rate has held steady at a low 3.3% for the past four months.

On a national scale, the picture is mixed. Initial jobless claims also decreased slightly to 231,000, but the national unemployment rate rose to 4.3% in July, its highest point since October 2021.
