President Joe Biden’s proclamation of Transgender Day of Visibility falling on Easter Sunday has sparked criticism.

In the announcement Friday, Biden wrote, “Today, we send a message to all transgender Americans: You are loved. You are heard. You are understood. You belong. You are America and my entire Administration, and I have your back.”

Prominent Christians, politicians, and social media users expressed their disapproval, viewing it as a disregard for the religious significance of Easter.

Many Christians felt that the decision to recognize Transgender Day of Visibility on Easter Sunday was disrespectful and undermined the importance of the religious holiday. They argued that Easter should solely focus on the resurrection of Jesus and the central tenets of Christianity.

Some critics took to social media and said that President Biden prioritized his political agenda over religious values.

Republican Rep. Greg Steube of Florida blasted the president, “Biden is so beholden to the progressive left, he must find a way to keep the focus on LGBTQ propaganda, even on the holiest day of the year. Declaring a “Trans holiday” on this Easter Sunday is a slap in the face to every Christian in America.”

“In a nation founded on Judeo-Christian values, this Democratic administration is purposefully taking actions to mock our faith,” said Rep. Steube.

Even the Trump campaign sent a statement Saturday calling Biden’s decision a “Blasphemous Declaration.”

In an email statement titled, “Joe Biden’s Blasphemous Declaration of Trans Visibility Day on Easter Sunday,” Karoline Leavitt, National Press Secretary for the Trump campaign, said, “It is appalling and insulting that Joe Biden’s White House prohibited children from submitting religious egg designs for their Easter Art Event, and formally proclaimed Easter Sunday as ‘Trans Day of Visibility.’ Sadly, these are just two more examples of the Biden Administration’s years-long assault on the Christian faith.”

“We call on Joe Biden’s failing campaign and White House to issue an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is for one celebration only — the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” said Leavitt.

Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power also condemned Biden for the declaration.

“There appears to be no limit to what the Biden administration will do to try and shove their radical agenda down the throats of the American people,” said Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power. “As Christians gather tomorrow to celebrate Easter Sunday, one of the most holy days of the Christian calendar, President Biden thinks that it is appropriate to issue a proclamation designating Easter Sunday as ‘Transgender Day of Visibility.’ This comes the same day that it is reported for the first time that Christian symbolism was not allowed in the White House Easter Egg contest. President Biden should issue a retraction and an apology to the American people, and Nikki Fried along with all Florida Democrats should demand the same.”

President Biden’s proclamation on Transgender Day of Visibility is not the first instance where his stance on LGBTQ+ issues has clashed with his Catholic faith. As a self-proclaimed “devout Catholic,” Biden has faced criticism for his pro-choice stance on abortion and his support for LGBTQ+ rights.

Some argue that these positions contradict the teachings of the Catholic Church and raise questions about the president’s religious beliefs.

A recent Pew Research poll revealed that only 13% of Americans perceive President Biden as “very religious.” The majority of respondents categorized him as either “somewhat religious” or “not at all” religious. These findings indicate a disconnect between Biden’s public image as a devout Catholic and the perception of the general public
