U.S. Sen. Rick Scott has ramped up the pressure on President Joe Biden to do more to stop Vladimir Putin’s attack on Ukraine.
The Florida Republican called on the president to impose a no-fly zone or supply Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with warplanes and other weaponry so his troops can deny Russia superiority in the sky.
Failure to do that, Scott indicated, would reveal Biden as “heartless.”
“America has the ability to stop this,” Scott told Fox News Digital in an interview Wednesday. “If we don’t, then we have a president that’s clearly heartless.”
“We’ve got to help them make sure that Russia can’t continue to just indiscriminately just kill these little kids.”
Scott’s comments came after Zelenskyy made an emotional appeal to Congress to help him fend off the predator invading from the east.
During his speech to Congress, the Ukrainian leader played a video of Russian shelling of his nation’s urban areas, including the dead and wounded civilians, according to CNBC.
“This is a terror that Europe has not seen, has not seen for 80 years and we are asking for a reply, for an answer to this terror from the whole world,” Zelenskyy said. “Is this a lot to ask for, to create a no-fly zone over Ukraine to save people? Is this too much to ask?”
Sen. Scott did not seem to think so.
“We’ve got to help them make sure that Russia can’t continue to just indiscriminately just kill these little kids,” Scott told Fox News.
“Give them all the equipment they need, which is planes, anti-aircraft defense systems, everything they need, or do a no-fly zone. One or the other,” Scott added.
“The White House has the authority to do this. If Biden doesn’t do it, he’s heartless and every day he doesn’t do it there’s more little kids that are dying.”
“It just breaks my heart,” Scott continued, referencing the civilian casualties.
“Time is of the essence. How many more pictures of mass graves do we have to see? How many more pictures of little children being killed indiscriminately and families being separated … do we have to see before we show up, and we rally the world to show up?”
Scott maintained his demand for more action from Biden on social media on Wednesday.
“@ZelenskyyUa has been clear: @Ukraine needs planes to defend its skies,” Scott tweeted. “Why is @POTUS still blocking their ability to fight for themselves?”
That last comment is a reference to the fact that Biden personally scuttled a plan for Poland to ship MiG fighters to Ukraine through an American airbase in Germany.
