Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz will host a press conference at 11:45 a.m. ET with 25 members of Congress following the introduction of a Sense of Congress resolution stating that President Donald Trump did not engage in insurrection.

The resolution is co-sponsored by more than 60 members of Congress.

The Fort Walton Beach Republican emailed a draft resolution last week that declares the position of the House of Representatives is that Trump “did not engage in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or give aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”

“You are receiving this email because your boss endorsed President Trump, and we would love to have your support as an original cosponsor before we send the resolution and the list of sponsors to the former President,” the email from Gaetz’s team read.

It was sent to other Republican lawmakers.

“This resolution is a no-brainer,” it added, “controversial only to the most extreme of the far-left – and a statement of fact that every single Republican can be expected to support.”

“If the left has the courage to interfere in our elections and weaponize the judicial system against our brethren,” the email continued, “we must have the courage to express what is self-evident.”

“The coalition of Republicans, led by Rep. Gaetz, seeks to clarify the stance of the House of Representatives be that President Trump did not participate in actions that would bar him from again holding public office,” said Gaetz’s office.

The resolution directly states that “President Donald J. Trump did not engage in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or give aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
