Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida on Thursday ripped fellow Republicans for ramming through yet another stopgap spending bill to keep the government in business temporarily.

According to CBS News, the House voted for a temporary spending bill to keep the government from shutting down through March 8 by a 320-99 margin. The Senate followed with a 77-13 vote to approve the short-term extension, known as a continuing resolution.

President Joe Biden has pleaded to sign the measure.

“Watching House Republicans is like watching a football team whose best play is the punt and the block,” Gaetz said during House floor debate of the bill,

“Here we gather to punt yet again,” Gaetz added. “Last I checked, the Republicans actually have a majority in the House of Representatives. But you wouldn’t know it if you looked at our checkbook because we are all too willing to continue the policy choices of Joe Biden and the spending levels of Nancy Pelosi instead of showing the will and the courage to say that this woke and weaponized government has to be defanged. It has to be attacked. It has to see reductions in spending.”

Gaetz added that most Americans are laboring under higher gas and food prices because Congress won’t get its fiscal house in order.

“We ought to be rejecting this CR [continuing resolution]. We ought to pass single-subject spending bills. And we ought to vote for the spending cuts that this country desperately needs,” Gaetz thundered.

On X following the vote, Gaetz posted, “The uniparty of Democrats and sellout Republicans suspended all the rules on the House floor and passed yet another Continuing Resolution.”

“People worked hard for this House majority, and we are not utilizing the leverage to stop this march to perdition that the Biden-Pelosi spending and policy choices will take us down,” he added.
