The cavalcade of Republican lawmakers appearing in New York City to rally for former President Donald Trump continued on Thursday, led this time by Rep. Matt Gaetz.
Outside the courtroom where Trump’s legal team was cross-examining Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer turned supposed star prosecution witness, Gaetz told the media that COhen was “dog walked” through “the series of lies he has told.”
“There is literally no branch of government that Michael Cohen has not lied to,” said Gaetz, repeating a line he offered during a hearing on Wednesday when Cohen’s former lawyer said Trump’s one-time fixer would lie any time it benefited him.

The Fort Walton Beach Republican also slammed Democratic Judge Juan Merchan as “corrupt,” noting that his family is banking “six figures off Democrat politics.” That referred to Merchan’s daughter, Loren, who is a Chicago-based Democratic political operative.
The New York Post has reported that Loren, whose clients include left-wing California Democrat Adam Schiff, and her clients are using the trial as a fundraising vehicle.
“This is a made-up crime. No other American in the country would be charged with this type of crime,” Gaetz continued.
“It’s like the Mr. Potato Head doll of crimes, where they had to stick together a bunch of things that did not belong together,” he added.

Gaetz said he and other GOP lawmakers have shown up to support “our friend” because Trump is not getting a “fair shake” from Judge Merchan. Gaetz argued that the judge is willfully restraining evidence that would reveal the depth and breadth of Cohen’s lies.
“This is a corrupt judge. These are corrupted witnesses. This is a corrupt prosecution that belies any sense of the facts or the law,” said Gaetz.
“So, we’re gonna keep speaking out against this. We’re gonna keep fighting against this. … These undemocratic efforts must be stopped. They must be defunded.”
On X Gaetz added, “I’ll always stand with President Trump.”
