In Tuesday’s House Judiciary Committee meeting, Special Counsel Robert Hur revealed that President Joe Biden had lied when he was questioned by U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz (FL-01) regarding his investigation into the former’s handling of classified documents.

Rep. Gaetz questioned Special Counsel Hur regarding Joe Biden’s claims that he “did not share classified information,” and Hur responded, “That is inconsistent with the findings based on the evidence.”

“February 8, the White House question, Mr. President, why did you share classified information with your ghostwriter? The President, I did not share classified information. I did not share it. I guarantee I did not. That’s not true. Is it? Mr. Hur.” asked Gaetz.

“That is inconsistent with the findings based on the evidence. And in my report,” replied Hur.

“Yes, it’s a lie, just what regular people would say. Right? Yeah. All right. So the next one, and all the stuff that was in my home was in filing cabinets that were either locked or able to be locked. That wasn’t true either. Was it?” asked Gaetz.

“That was inconsistent with the findings of our investigation,” replied Hur.

“Another lie? People might say, right, because what you’ve put in your report was among the places Mr. Biden’s lawyers found classified documents in the garage was a damaged open box. So here’s what I’m what I’m understanding right. As Mr. Armstrong laid out, you find in your report that the elements of a federal criminal violation are met, but then you apply this senile cooperator theory that because Joe Biden cooperated and the elevator didn’t go to the top floor, you don’t think you get a conviction? And I actually think you get to the right answer in that I don’t think Biden should have been charged don’t think Trump should have been charged. But under the like the senile cooperator theory, Isn’t it frustrating that Biden continues to go out and lie about the basic facts of the report that lay out a federal criminal violation?” Gaetz blasted back.

Special counsel Robert Hur has been at the center of attention recently due to his investigation into President Biden’s handling of classified documents.

Hur’s testimony before the House is shedding light on the questions raised about Biden’s memory and mental acuity.

Involvement in Biden Case

In January 2023, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Robert Hur to lead the probe into President Biden’s handling of classified documents.

The investigation was initiated after two sets of material from Biden’s time as vice president were discovered. Hur and his team embarked on a thorough examination, which included interviewing numerous witnesses. The highlight of the investigation was a two-day interview with Biden himself in October, during which Hur had the opportunity to delve into the details of the case.

Hur’s Report on Biden

In his report, Robert Hur concluded that President Biden willfully retained classified documents while also noting that Biden’s memory appeared to have “significant limitations.”

The report highlighted that if the case were to go to trial, Biden would likely present himself to a jury as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.

Hur’s report did not recommend criminal charges against Biden, but it raised questions about the president’s fitness to run for reelection.

The Significance of Hur’s Testimony

Hur’s testimony before the House carries immense significance, as it provides an opportunity to gain further insight into the investigation and the findings of his report.

The Republican Party has seized upon Hur’s report to question President Biden’s fitness to hold office, particularly due to the concerns raised about his memory and mental acuity.

Hur’s testimony also illuminates the details of his investigation, the decision-making process behind not recommending criminal charges and the impact of Biden’s age on his ability to govern effectively.

The Public’s Perception of Biden’s Age

Many voters have been concerned about President Biden’s age. According to a poll conducted in February 2024, Biden’s age remains a significant factor in the public’s eyes.

The findings of Hur’s report, which highlighted Biden’s memory limitations, have only added fuel to the fire. Republicans have used this as ammunition to cast doubt on Biden’s ability to fulfill the presidency’s responsibilities effectively. Hur’s testimony will likely contribute to shaping public opinion on this matter.

Hur’s Transition from the Justice Department

Robert Hur left the Justice Department last week and will testify before the House as a private citizen. Although he is no longer part of the government, his expertise and insights as the former special counsel make his testimony highly valuable.

As a private citizen, Hur has the freedom to express his views and provide detailed explanations of his findings without any potential conflicts of interest.
