Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz said Monday that President Joe Biden must obtain congressional approval for “any hostilities that he wants to engage in” following the deaths of three soldiers in Jordan over the weekend.
The Pentagon announced on Sunday that Army Spcs. Kennedy Sanders and Breonna Moffett as well as Sgt. William Jerome Rivers were killed in a drone strike by Iranian-backed militants. The drone struck a housing unit in a remote base near the Jordan-Syrian border. All three soldiers were from Georgia.
Islamic militia groups have launched more than 160 attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria since Oct. 7, when Hamas terrorists attacked southern Israel, killing more than 1,200 Jews, including at least 32 Americans.

Pentagon officials have said troops may have allowed the drone to slip through, believing it was a U.S. aircraft.
In response to the soldiers’ deaths, President Joe Biden said in a statement, “We will carry on their commitment to fight terrorism. And have no doubt — we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner our choosing.”
On Monday, Gaetz held up a caution sign while appearing on Newsmax with host Eric Bolling.
Bolling asked for the Fort Walton Beach Republican’s response after asserting Biden was playing “putt-putt golf on the world stage.”
Gaetz said everyone mourns the loss of our soldiers. But, he added, Biden needs to tread lightly. That is because America faces trouble in Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and elsewhere, yet has no military plan to deal with it.

“You look anywhere in the world right now, the Biden administration is listless,” said Gaetz. “There’s no real cohesion to what the goals are.”
By forcing Biden to submit to a vote on a war powers resolution, Gaetz added, Congress would receive details on what steps would be taken, including goals and how U.S. troops would be protected.
Gaetz then compared Biden to former President Donald Trump, who acted decisively when atrocities occurred or U.S. interests were threatened.
“President Trump understood how to reset deterrence with action,” said Gaetz. “My fear is that the Biden administration will stumble us into yet another war without a clear goal.”
Biden is surrounded by people who want the U.S. to become “the block captain of Baghdad,” said Gaetz.
