Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna seeks to block funding for the Biden administration’s lawsuit against Elon Musk for manning his Space X program with only U.S. citizens.

As the Tampa Free Press reported last week, the Department of Justice sued Space X for not hiring refugees and asylum-seekers. “Because of their citizenship status, asylees and refugees had virtually no chance of being fairly considered for or hired for a job at SpaceX,” the Justice Department argued.

Musk countered that only American citizens or green-card holders could work at his company because rockets are “advanced weapons technology.” The Biden administration disputes that.

But Luna, a Clearwater Republican, said on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, that she would work to defund Biden’s lawsuit against Musk’s rocket company.

“I will be filing an amendment this fall to block federal funding for this appalling lawsuit,” Luna said Thursday on X in response to a post about the controversy by journalist Greg Price.

“This is America,” Luna continued. “And you are well within your right to hire AMERICAN citizens without getting Biden’s DOJ minions sent after you.”

Price, in a second post about the lawsuit, noted, “If you go to NASA’s official website, it says ‘other than extremely rare exceptions, you must be a US citizen to work for NASA.’ But Biden’s DOJ wants to punish SpaceX for not hiring non-citizens? I’m sure this has nothing at all to do with getting revenge on @elonmusk for the Twitter files.”

Space X’s headquarters is in California, but the company has launched from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral on Florida’s east coast since signing a 20-year lease for the facility in 2014.
